About Me
Tap dancing guru Rosie Radiator is the inventor of RadTap (R), a revolutionary understanding of the execution and presentation of professional quality tap dance. The "how to" of Rad Tap(R) is called Tapnique(TM). Tapnique(TM) has been called the missing link in tap dance, an art form that is traditionally taught through the memorizing of choreography with no real technique to support the dancer. After her nationally televised solo tap dance across the Golden Gate Bridge in 1976, Rosie Radiator developed Tapnique(TM), the technique understanding of the deep relaxation release of tap. Rosie Radiator did this to enabled other tappers to join her and achieve relaxed natural tap while negotiating the rough and challenging surfaces of the city with relaxed feet.
Rosie Radiator soon formed the RadTap Team, and after training in Tapnique(TM) their tap dancing efforts were recorded several times in the Guinness Book of World Records. They are the current world record holders in Long Distance Tap Dancing at 9.6 miles. Tapnique(TM) provides beginning and experienced dancers with a whole new approach to the release of natural style and those fast smooth sounds that nobody sees and everybody hears. The Tapnique(TM) understanding of certain movements of the hips, knees, and shoulders allows the dancer to achieve new sounds from old moves and create new moves that have never been seen before, including the San Francisco Supershuffle. XTREMETAP(TM) at the Royce Gallery, Rosie's new MIDITAP (TM) Electronic facility in SF, opens up dancers' ears to the amazing musical environment in and around them, and more importantly, to how they interact with that musical environment. Rosie Radiator continues to perform in public. Rosie and the Radiators Hot Tap Trio are well known for their nightclub act and appearances with such notable tap dancers as Donald O'Connor, Honi Coles and Arthur Duncan.
Rosie Radiator also coaches professionals in LA and the bay area and also teaches a 6 day intensive Rad Tap(R) Workshop. This workshop is held in August for teachers and serious adult performers. Rosie Radiator also spends a lot of time at her Tapcamp(tm) in Northern California. When in town, Rosie continues to teach occasional Master Classes in Tapnique(tm) at the San Francisco Tap Dance Center, located since 1973 in the prestigious Developing Environments Artists community. Rosie Radiator is a San Francisco institution. Senator Dianne Feinstein has remarked that Rosie is the true spirit of San Francisco.
