About Me

Tasked with the important mission of training the next great physicians of the United States Armed Services, Dr. Meir Chernofsky is an effective and well-respected instructor at Uniformed Services University, the nations leading educational institution for future military physicians and nurses. Drawing upon his considerable experience as a practicing anesthesiologist, Dr. Meir Chernofsky provides for his students a shining example of the high level of care and responsibility a doctor must demonstrate to his or her patients. In addition to his teaching position, Dr. Meir Chernofsky provides clinical anesthesia services at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. With a particular expertise and interest in neuroanesthesia, vascular anesthesia and anesthesia for large cancer operations, Dr. Meir Chernofsky feels proud and honored to be part of a team that provides anesthesia and pain management services to warriors injured the global war on terrorism, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom.



A large component of Dr. Chernofsky's work at Walter Reed Army Medical Center is his mentorship of military resident physician anesthesia trainees. In recognition of his efforts, within the last 5 years Dr. Meir Chernofsky has twice been named "Teacher of the Year." Before being offered the role of Assistant Professor at USU, Dr. Meir Chernofsky earned his stripes as a medical doctor. Receiving his M.D. from the School of Medicine at New York University, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Dr. Meir Chernofsky showed impressive skill in a variety of medical disciplines. In fact, Dr. Chernofskys first post-med school residency was in family medicine at the University of California Irvine/Long Beach Memorial Hospital. After excelling as a family practice residentearning the top scores on his in-service exams three years in a row, Dr. Chernofsky set off on a different career path. Following an interest in the field of anesthesiology, Dr. Meir Chernofsky began a new residency at the University of California Los Angeles/Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Completing his second residency in 1989, Dr. Meir Chernofsky again demonstrated his medical acumen, receiving the highest exam scores possible two years in a row.



In his spare time, Dr. Meir Chernofsky enjoys playing music and volunteering in his community. Possessing impressive skills on the banjo, guitar, tin whistle, and Irish bagpipe, Dr. Chernofsky is almost as musically gifted as he is medically. A supporter of the Rockland branch of the Jewish service organization Bikur Cholim, Dr. Meir Chernofsky donates regularly to help provide assistance to those in need, particularly hospital patients. Additionally, Dr. Chernofsky is also a supporter of Yad Sarah, the largest voluntary organization in Israel.
