After her second critically acclaimed independent feature film, The Highway Home (Winner of a 2008 Berkeley Video and Film Festival Peace Reel Special Recognition Award), writer and director Laurel Hunter moves forward into other promising creative projects.Laurel Hunter is currently preparing to shoot a documentary. Laurel Hunter continues to hone her skills as a fiction writer, studying with the Berkeley, California-based poet and author, Clive Matson. Owing to her successful publication of short fiction in such literary publications as the Berkeley Fiction Review (Passenger) and New Woman Magazine (Man for a Day) and honorable mention from the New Millennium Writing Awards (12th Edition) for her piece Dog House, Laurel Hunter is currently assembling a collection of 13 short stories under the working title of Passenger and Other Stories. Laurel Hunter also earned a spot as a finalist in 2007 in the prestigious Glimmer Train Open Fiction and Very Short Fiction Awards for her story "Oranges". Prior to producing The Highway Home, Laurel Hunter wrote, directed, and acted in the successful film Something Better, which toured at numerous film festivals around the country and won awards and recognition from industry peers. Laurel Hunter also has extensive experience in the theater, claiming a variety of credits as a stage actress, writer, director, and producer. Laurel Hunters acting credits include Agnes of God, the Adding Machine, Anyone Can Whistle, and Fuente Ovejuna, and she directed the plays Gambling and Aunt Jack. Laurel Hunter has appeared in a supporting role as the character Mary in her award-winning film, Something Better. Laurel Hunter graduated cum laude from San Francisco State University with a B.A. in Creative Writing and Playwriting. As a student, Laurel Hunter garnered a Highsmith Playwriting Award and a Lawrence and Lee Playwriting Award. A longtime resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Laurel Hunter works and films in various locations across America.
