About Me
Praised for his commitment to improving citywide services and programs, Lance MacLean has represented Mission Viejo as mayor and city councilman for nearly a decade. As a conservative leader who believes in transparency with his constituents, MacLean works to protect Mission Viejos strong sense of community and promote its positive qualities. Lance MacLean is a Southern Californian native. Earning two degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of California, Irvine, MacLean later went on to graduate Pi Alpha Alpha from California State University, Long Beach with his Masters in Public Administration. For a period, MacLean worked for Senator S. I. Hayakawa in Washington D.C., researching pending legislation and attending committee hearings on science, commerce, and transportation issues. Compelled by the safe neighborhoods, youth programs, public parks, and good schools, MacLean and his family moved to Mission Viejo in 1993. Starting his political career in Mission Viejo as a council member in 2002, Lance MacLean was reelected to a second term in 2006. MacLean served as mayor pro tempore in 2005 and became mayor in 2006. Today, MacLean is a city council member, and he will seek another term in 2010. In his post, MacLean is part of the Ad Hoc Committee for Affordable Housing Issues and the Board of Directors for the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency. He is also an alternate representative to the Orange County Fire Authority and representative to the Orange County Council of Governments. Throughout his public service, Lance MacLean has promoted issues regarding city safety, beautification projects, traffic repairs, and balanced budgets. A fiscal conservative and independent leader who listens to his constituents, MacLean has tripled Mission Viejos city reserves. MacLeans current reelection campaign includes business promotion by economic development. Establishing Mission Viejo as the safest large city in California for three years in a row and the safest large city in the United States in 2008, MacLean seeks to keep fire, ambulance, and police enforcement services up throughout his next term. To lessen traffic congestion, Lance MacLean has plans to widen road sections and synchronize traffic signals. In an effort to keep the citys youth on a positive track, MacLean will also work with event coordinators to encourage safe, supervised events and with urban planners to maintain public recreational facilities.
