Kevin Acker Undertakes Seven-Day Canoe Trip

Kevin Acker and two associates

successfully completed a seven-day canoe trip in Algonquin Park, Ontario. Kevin

Ackers trip began on July 30, 2007, and was completed on August 4, 2007.

Kevin Acker used the Portage Store as his outfitters for this trip.

Before leaving, Kevin Acker created a strict itinerary and worked with the

Portage Store to ensure that the group would be properly outfitted. Kevin Acker

used an 18-foot canoe for this trip. Kevin Acker began his seven-day

trip at Canoe Lake, leaving for Burnt Island later that day, passing Joe Lake on

the way. The second day involved Kevin Acker undertaking a difficult, 10-hour

journey from Burnt Island Lake to Lake LaMuir, including a particularly hilly

2,600-meter portage between Big Trout and Lake LaMuir.By the third day,

Kevin Acker and his associates traversed through Hogan Lake en route to their

destination, Catfish Lake, where they spent a rainy night quite comfortably.

Kevin Acker spent the night in a covered hammock, which handled the rain

admirably. The major attractions on Day Four were the Petawawa

River and Burntroot Lake. Though Kevin Acker thought Burntroot was one of the

nicest lakes in Algonquin Park, the group had to camp on nearby Redpine Bay due

to there being no available campsites on Burntroot. The next two days

proved to be less taxing for Kevin Acker, leaving more time for rest and

relaxation. He and his associates followed Redpine Bay to Big Trout, and the

following day set out for Sunbeam Lake via White Trout and Grassy Bay.

When arriving at Sunbeam, another of the nicer lakes in the park, Kevin

Acker had trouble finding an unoccupied campsite,. However, the group finally

spotted a somewhat isolated hill where they could enjoy the view. At

dawn on the seventh day, the water levels were low in the ponds between Sunbeam

and Tom Thompson lake, requiring Kevin Acker to do some extra portaging. The

group made its way back to Canoe Lake, the circle completed.
