The proprietor of several successful practices in Ohio, Dr. Karen Mihalik opened her first clinic, North Coast Obstetrics & Gynecology, Inc., in 1993. She expanded to a second location five years later, and in 2003, she added North Coast Laser Aesthetics & Liposuction, Inc., a complementary practice focusing on laser-based cosmetic treatments. Dr. Karen Mihalik also operates North Coast Vein Treatment Centers. An expert in vein procedures, Dr. Karen Mihalik treats spider veins, leg pain and cramping, leg discoloration, and venous reflux disease. This disease occurs when the valves that carry blood back to the heart from the veins become damaged, and it can lead to a variety of symptoms, such leg heaviness, swollen limbs, and skin ulcers. Left untreated, the condition becomes progressively worse. Dr. Karen Mihalik offers state-of-the-art, minimally invasive treatment for venous reflux disease. To treat varicose veins, Dr. Karen Mihalik performs the VNUS Closure procedure. Using a very small radio-frequency catheter, Dr. Karen Mihalik channels heat into the walls of affected veins, causing them to seal off. Subsequently, the blood is rerouted through other veins and the patient experiences an immediate improvement in function and appearance of their legs. Dr. Karen Mihalik can perform the VNUS Closure procedure through a tiny incision that leaves little or no scarring, and patients typical resume regular activity within one or two days.
