About Me

An accomplished executive with over 15 years of experience in management, Mr. John Reynders currently serves as the Head of R&D Information at AstraZeneca. In this position, John Reynders maintains direct oversight of Informatics, Information Science, and IT capabilities spanning discovery, translation, clinical , and regulatory functions in 7 R&D sites spanning five countries.

Prior to joining AstraZeneca in 2010, John served as Head of Neuroscience Biomarkers and Integrative Solutions at Johnson & Johnson, where he oversaw translational biomarker programs, co-founded the Companion Diagnostics Center of Excellence, and led the Informatics Center of Excellence for the Pharmaceutical Sector. Previously John served as Chief Information Officer of the Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals Research & Development Group.

Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson in 2007, John Reynders served in the role of Information Officer for Lilly Research Laboratories. In this position, John Reynders enabled Eli Lillys Drug Discovery and Development efforts through the strategic management of all IT and Informatics Systems. Through his work, John Reynders oversaw IT systems across all of Eli Lillys global operations. John Reynders also worked to improve Eli Lillys Tailored Therapeutics strategy through the creation of a unique Integrative Informatics program.

Before his work with Eli Lilly, John Reynders served as the Vice President of Informatics at Celera Genomics. During his time at Celera Genomics, John Reynders integrated computational chemistry, computational biology, genetics, computer science, and software engineering efforts into one department through the formation of the companys first Discovery Informatics division. The Discovery Informatics division also helped to improve Celeras large and small molecule portfolio by enabling the companys proprietary genomic, proteomic, and diagnostic platforms across therapeutic programs.

John Reynders holds multiple graduate degrees, including a PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Princeton University and an MBA from Northwestern Universitys Kellogg School of Business. Prior to acquiring his graduate degrees, John Reynders earned his BS in Mathematics with summa cum laude honors from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

A respected member of numerous professional organizations, John Reynders currently maintains membership in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. John Reynders was also formerly active in the American Physical Society (Division of Plasma Physics and Division of Computational Physics).
