About Me
When the citizens of San Mateo County went to the polls to elect their next sheriff, they wanted someone who would make their community a safer and better place to live. With over 30 years of law enforcement experience to his name, Greg Munks is fully equipped to handle the rigors of the Sheriffs office, a fact he has proven continually since being elected in June 6, 2006.
Though Sheriff Greg Munks has only held his position for 2.5 years, he has already done a great deal to improve his community. One such accomplishment is the successful implementation of the CARON project, or the Community Alliance to Rebuild our Neighborhood project. This project, which Greg Munks supported while he was still the San Mateo County Undersheriff, has been phenomenally successful in helping to diminish gang violence in San Mateo County.
In addition to his successful work with CARON, Sheriff Greg Munks has been active in numerous organizations designed to advance the agenda of law enforcement agencies throughout California and the United States. Specifically, Greg Munks is a member of the California State Sheriffs Association, the California Peace Officers Association, and the Western States Sheriffs Association, among a variety of other professional organizations.
Sheriff Greg Munks also serves as the Chairperson of the Northern California High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). Designed to coordinate the efforts of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking, the HIDTA program has seen great success in its efforts.
A lifelong resident of his community, Greg Munks earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Menlo College. Greg Munks also earned an MBA from Golden Gate University in 1995. In his free time, Greg Munks enjoys recreational sports, horseback riding, skiing, and spending time with his wife and his four children.
