About Me
Gail Wadsworth has had a life long passion for the arts. She attended the Boston Fine Arts Museum School after high school graduation. After that first year, on a wilderness excursion in Kenya, she had an epiphany that led her away from art school and into the world of human ecology. She was determined to find out how people survive in different situations all around the world, and what makes communities succeed. Although she went on to study in scientific fields, obtaining an MS degree in International Agricultural Development, she never stopped pursuing her own artistic endeavors. I believe to my core that every job we do in the world should be done with a love of creativity and an aesthetic sense. I strive for this every day. Her belief that everyone should know their farmer as intimately as they know their doctor, dentist or childs teacher keeps her motivated and seeking new ways to create connections between people and their food. Upon returning to California in 2000 from 10 years of living abroad, Gail began working to understand the local food system in Contra Costa County. In 2001, she founded Eat Outside the Box, a community supported agriculture (CSA) project supporting multiple family farmers in Brentwood by directly marketing their produce to 70 families in Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Danville. In 2006, her CSA received a Best of the East Bay award from Diablo Magazine as the best place to get local organic produce. Gail now works as an independent consultant to farmers, consumers, educators, and wholesalers concerned with alternatives to the current food system. She is a sought after presenter at schools, professional seminars and learning communities, specifically focusing on agricultural trends in the East Bay region of California, the effects of global markets on local economies, reducing carbon footprints through the food system and alternative marketing systems.
