About Me

As the Senior Director of Program Development with Rare Conservation, Dr. Patrick Mehlman remains committed to worldwide conservation efforts that help both society and the surrounding natural environment. Currently promoting Rare Conservation in over 50 countries through a hands-on approach toward educating others about social marketing and conservation, Dr. Mehlman consistently has a positive impact on those he affects. As a conservation program with nearly four decades of experience promoting behavioral changes in individuals and communities, Rare Conservation is currently operating on a budget of over $14 million.

Recently, Dr. Patrick Mehlman represented Rare Conservation by speaking to a number of fisheries stakeholders at an international conference assembled by the World Wildlife Fund, The Department of Marine Resources, and the Bahamas Marine Exporters Association. While at the conference, Dr. Patrick Mehlman advocated for Size Matters, a campaign seeking adherence to lobster size regulations in the fishing community.

In addition to his work with Rare Conservation, Dr. Patrick Mehlman has served as Senior Director for the Central Africa Program for Conservation International (CI). Following the vision of CI, he is dedicated to promoting and protecting fresh water, reliable sources of food, a stable climate, and healthy oceans for the entire world to enjoy. In Central Africa, Dr. Patrick Mehlman was a proponent of research, awareness, and policy change in order to conserve the eastern lowland gorilla population in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). After watching the DRCs gorilla population decrease by more that 50 percent, Dr. Patrick Mehlman and Conservation International have advocated for the important role that gorillas play in balancing the ecosystem, namely in maintaining the health of rain forests that contain many other endangered species.

Further displaying a strong commitment to the protection of gorillas, Dr. Patrick Mehlman served as the Vice President of Africa Programs and
Regional Director for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. In addition to extensive professional work in the field of primate conservation, Dr.
Patrick Mehlman holds membership in The American Society of Primatologists.
