About Me

David Faxon is one of today's most recognized and distinguished physicians in the field of heart disease. David Faxon received his M.D. from Boston University School of Medicine in 1971 and has maintained an active clinical practice since 1976.

David Faxon has taught medical students, residents and cardiology fellows since that time, primarily focusing on the clinical assessment and treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. David Faxon's research interests include the mechanisms and prevention of restenosis after angioplasty, new interventional devices, acute coronary syndromes, diabetes, and coronary artery disease.

David Faxon holds five current licensures and certifications in his field, and David Faxon is Board-Certified to practice internal medicine, interventional cardiology, and cardiovascular disease. David Faxon is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Massachusetts, and California.

Since 1996, David Faxon's clinical practice has primarily involved seeing patients on a weekly outpatient basis. David Faxon has also cared for inpatients with a wide variety of cardiology problems, covering an inpatient service and coronary care unit for two to three months per year.

David Faxon has also been active in cardiac catheterization laboratory and interventional cardiology work since 1976 and 1999, respectively. David Faxon has successfully balanced these two areas with great emphasis on research, followed by David Faxon's active roles in leadership, such as president appointments with non-profit health organizations such as the American Heart Association.

David Faxon developed one of his most influential curriculum offerings and innovative educational programs at the University of Southern California Medical Center and University Hospital, where, from 1993 to 2000, David Faxon created the core cardiology curriculum for the cardiology fellowship program. The curriculum detailed the goals of each rotation as well as the practical and didactic education during the training period.

David Faxon's early work in cardiac hemodynamics in congestive heart failure was in collaboration with Dr. Harry Gavras, with whom David Faxon first described and demonstrated the role of angiotension converting enzyme as a cause and treatment of congestive heart failure, recognized today as the therapeutic standard. One of David Faxon's primary achievements has been his leadership in the field of angioplasty as he was one of the first physician to perform coronary angioplasty in the United States.

Since 1979, David Faxon has been closely involved with the American Heart Association. David Faxon served as the president of the Massachusetts Affiliate, president of the Los Angeles Affiliate, and also on the Board of the Western States Affiliate. David Faxon was also chairman of the AHA Scientific Publications Committee, which is responsible for all AHA's scientific publications. In addition, David Faxon was elected to the AHA's national Board of Directors and was the national President of the AHA from 2001-2002.

David Faxon has also served on numerous committees for the American College of Cardiology and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. David Faxon has also been active in the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, for which David Faxon also served as president, from 1997-1998.
