About Me

A dedicated family man and a driven entrepreneur, Daniel E. Straus has employed lessons learned from his parents in his long and successful career in health care. Growing up, Daniel E. Straus listened closely to the wisdom his parents espoused. An attorney, Daniel E. Straus' father also ran for public office and engaged in community service through an assisted living facility, which he led with strong ethical standards in an industry often under fire for corruption. Daniel E. Straus' mother, a teacher, supported her husband in his various endeavors and offered her advice on ethics and general business practices.

As an undergraduate student, Daniel E. Straus studied political science and earned his Bachelor of Arts at Columbia University. After acquiring his degree, Daniel E. Straus enrolled in his father's alma mater, New York University, to pursue his Juris Doctor. Daniel E. Straus launched his career as an attorney with the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Staying with the firm for three years, Daniel E. Straus honed his skills in the field of corporate law until he decided to join his brother in operating their father's business.

In the early 1980s, Daniel E. Straus and his brother created MultiCare Companies, Inc. Beginning with three assisted living facilities previously owned by their father, Daniel E. Straus and his brother diligently negotiated partnerships and led various business transactions until their company expanded into a billion-dollar corporation. Daniel E. Straus' company went public in the early 1990s and by the end of the decade had been sold for $1.5 billion.

Continuing to operate within the health care industry, Daniel E. Straus founded a number of businesses through his investment firm, The Straus Group, including CareOne and Care Realty LLC. Since 2003, Daniel E. Straus has acted as Chairman of Aveta Inc., a company he co-founded with Joseph Mark and Timothy O'Donnell. In 2006, Daniel E. Straus was named Chief Executive Officer of Aveta Inc.

Grateful for the opportunities and education afforded to him while studying at New York University, Daniel E Straus gave back to the institution through a generous endowment toward the creation of The Joseph and Gwendolyn Straus Institute for the Advanced Study of Law & Justice, a fellowship program in the New York University School of Law. Daniel E. Straus also sits on the Board of Trustees for New York University.
