About Me

Colleen Barney can usually be defined as a talented and result oriented attorney, who will stop at no cost to achieve ultimate success. Her passion and endurance through school and in community organizations, truly makes her a remarkably driven individual. Barney received her BS from Central Michigan University, with dual majors in History and Philosophy. Throughout Colleens undergraduate years, she was recognized as an outstanding student with deans list honors in every semester, and graduating Magna Cum Laude. She was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity. Barney went on to pursue her JD at the University of Michigan, where she participated in an array of clubs and activities. She pursued very ambitious roles in each of these organizations such as the Vice President of the Intellectual Property Students Association, the President of the Sports Law Society, Vice President of the Student Senate, and a graduate student liaison for the Board in Control of Intercollegiate athletics. Colleen Barney also won the Irving Stenn Award for outstanding contribution to the Law School, all while working full time. Soon after completing her JD, Barney moved to California to accept a position at Jackson DeMarco & Peckenpaugh where she also continued her education earning her Masters of Laws in Taxation from the University of San Diego Law School before leaving to form Albrecht & Barney. When Barney is not working at Albrecht & Barney, she can be found pursing her passion for track and field with the Southern California Striders, a track and field club of youths, open, sub-masters, masters and seniors track and field athletes in the pursuit of excellence through camaraderie and competition. Barney has served on the board of Human Options, and recently spent time collecting and delivering supplies to Poli Village School in Tanzania. Colleen Barney is also a big advocate for her local schools, where she is a Parliamentarian on the PTA board for Newport Heights Elementary, as well as going on her fourth year sitting on the GATE parent Advisory Committee for the Newport Mesa Unified School District.
