About Me

Grounded in government, publishing, and business, Bill Rauch attributes his success to his ability to make plans, set strategies, and achieve results. Rauch has ghost-written a New York Times bestseller, started a newspaper, worked effectively in the fast-paced world of Wall Street, and served three terms as Mayor of Beaufort, South Carolina.

Mayor Rauchs political career started when he was hired onto New York City Mayor Ed Kochs administration, first as an advance man and later as press secretary. Rauch was on board as Koch navigated the city back from the brink of bankruptcy. An organizer, he also ran Kochs various street campaigns. As the longest-serving press secretary, Bill Rauch oversaw the external affairs of 42 city agencies and handled high profile fiascos. Rauch took on the responsibility of calming crises and relentlessly presenting the public Kochs positive image.

Eager to raise his children in a town where strong family values ruled, Mayor Rauch moved to Beaufort, South Carolina and established The Lowcountry Ledger, the citys first Sunday newspaper. Rauch's title was publisher but he wrote, edited, and sold too, finally bringing the communitys paper to annual revenues of $500,000. Less than a year later, Rauch was motivated by friends and the community to run for city council. Koch and Beaufort residents donated $1,000 to Rauch's initial shoeleather campaign budget, and once elected, he served on the city council for six years before running for mayor.

Bill Rauch won the 1999 mayor's election and served three terms as Mayor of Beaufort. During his terms, Mayor Bill Rauch kept taxes down while generating new revenue for Beaufort by bringing in new businesses. Mayor Rauch left the city better than he found it by, for example, improving city services and building a much-needed new police headquarters, municipal courthouse, and city hall, all financed by a bond referendum. In his tenure, Mayor Rauch doubled the citys landmass and brought the most effective fire aid to Beaufort.

Mayor Bill Rauch also possesses experience as a writer and publisher, ghost writing Mayor Kochs bestselling autobiography, as well as his own memoir and political advice book for small-town statesmen: Politicking. Rauch also boasts experience on Wall Street, and he was Managing Director with The Henley Group, a $7B diversifiied industrial holding company.
