About Me
Since the early 1970s, Arthur Wolk has generated significant wins for clients through his aviation litigation practice at The Wolk Law Firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Beginning with Hortman v. Piper in 1971, Arthur Wolk established a specialty in the demonstration of faulty equipment as a cause of airplane accidents, expertise he continues to develop to this day. Arthur Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm went on to represent two victims of a single-engine aircraft crash in 1984 (Harper v. Cessna), a case in which he successfully showed that a defective seat latch was responsible for the fatal accident. Through the diligent efforts of Arthur Wolk, the jury awarded compensatory and punitive damages to the plaintiffs totaling $29.3 million. In the aftermath of the United Airlines 232 crash of 1989, The Wolk Law Firm and Arthur Wolk handled numerous lawsuits against the company, bringing substantial settlements to a wide range of clients. Arthur Wolk personally identified the cause of the accident three hours after the crash and shared his findings on Larry King Live. Two such notable cases arising from this tragedy include the high-profile Murray v. General Electric Company and Bealer v. United Airlines, both managed by Arthur Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm. In 1990, Arthur Wolk litigated Datskow v. Teledyne, a case focusing on a fatal small plane crash caused by a faulty engine. In the end, Arthur Wolk generated an award of $107 million for the plaintiffs, having proven gross negligence on the part of the engine manufacturer. In addition, Arthur Wolk successfully represented various parties against the Boeing Company for recurring rudder failures in the 737 line of aircraft, which resulted in multiple tragedies. Arthur Wolk and The Wolk Law Firm represented the plaintiff in Cassoutt v. Cessna Aircraft Company in 2001, bringing about the largest aviation verdict in history. Demonstrating a defective seat slip as the cause of the accident, Arthur Wolk ensured awards of $80 million in compensatory damages and $400 million in punitive damages. Arthur Wolk has also handled cases concerning Swissair Flight 111, EgyptAir Flight 990, and Alaska Airlines Flight 261.
